Did someone say smart grid?

-- Amanda Meade -- 04/03/2009

Polls form last month show a whopping 93% of Americans are concerned about energy and 89% about global warming. This week, a bill proposal that addresses the big issues of both issues was released, the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES).

Leaders of the 111th Congress have thrown down a marker and said they want a climate and energy bill that breaks away from the status quo.

There are four titles in this bill:

1. A "clean energy" title that promotes renewable energy sources and carbon capture and sequestration

2. An "energy efficiency" title to increase energy efficiency across all sectors of the economy

3. A "global warming" title places limits on emissions

4. A "transitioning" titile that helps consumers and indusrty move to a clean energy economy, and promotes green jobs

Development of a smart grid is under the first title, clean energy. In a few years we could be exporting clean energy technologies, instead of importing oil. What a great world that will be. Experts are giving ACES pretty good grades with Joe Romm of Climate Progress awarding it a B+. Thank you Chairman Waxman!
