Sen. Joe Lieberman, in the midst of his arguments on behalf of the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act today, suggested the Republican candidate for the presidency would get behind it before the debate is through.
Many have suggested this bill, which would cut greenhouse-gas emissions in U.S. industry, won’t have a chance passing Congress this year, and Sen. John McCain—who has his own positions on global warming -- hasn’t been a public supporter.
But Lieberman said at a press conference this afternoon: "I personally think that Sen. McCain will support this bill in the end. He’s been part of this from the very beginning."
McCain and Lieberman—who has been among the Republican’s most vigorous campaigners this year -- had been on the same side of this issue for a long time. In recent years, they argued their own McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act, which found some significant support, but not enough to pass the Senate.
