LCVEF & CVSCEF Announce First Issue Ads of '08 Cycle
Columbia, SC - On the eve of the first debate, the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and the Conservation Voters of South Carolina Education Fund today announced an ad buy to coincide with the South Carolina debate. The ad is narrated by Robert Redford and urges the 2008 presidential candidates to make addressing global warming a top priority.

"In every generation, there are a few defining moments when we have the chance to chart a new course that will leave our children a better world. Our moment is now," Redford says in the ad.
The ad will begin airing in the Columbia, Charleston, and Washington, D.C. media markets this Sunday on MSNBC, CNN and NBC South Carolina affiliates. The ad is part of "The Heat Is On" campaign (http://www.heatison.org) designed to help create a new political discourse in the 2008 presidential nomination process by generating a vigorous national debate on global warming.
"Global warming is the challenge of our generation. We have the solutions now to solve this challenge, but we need presidential leadership to make it happen. It's time to turn up the heat on the presidential candidates to ensure our next president is committed to cooling down the planet," League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski said.
LCV Education Fund is partnering with state league of conservation voters in each of the early voting states: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada. In each of these states, LCV Education Fund is working to educate caucus goers and primary voters on global warming. Through working with citizens in each of these states, the project is positioning global warming policy as a major issue in the 2008 race.
"By utilizing America's innovative spirit, we can cut global warming pollution by investing in clean renewable energy and developing new energy technologies that create jobs," Conservation Voters of South Carolina Education Fund Executive Director Ann Timberlake said. "We urge the 2008 presidential candidates to tackle global warming to reclaim a hopeful and secure future. Our children and grandchildren deserve nothing less."
In addition to calling on presidential candidates to make global warming a priority, The Heat Is On program is reaching out to elected officials, opinion leaders, political donors and the media - all of whom will play a critical role in the 2008 nomination process - to place global warming at the forefront of the debate.
