As the nation's warmest winter on record draws to a close, Granite State voters are demonstrating that global warming is a top priority for New Hampshire. Over the last few weeks NH residents have demanded strong national leadership on the issue through the Town Meeting process. Wise Presidential candidates in the Granite State will be listening closely.
As of this writing, 153 New Hampshire towns have passed the New Hampshire Climate Change resolution, insisting that the U.S. lead in the effort to reduce global warming pollution and encouraging local groups to take action at home. With the IPCC's ominous warnings reverberating throughout the media and the grassroots, an overwhelming majority of towns (more than 90 percent) voted for action.
According to recent polls, 90% of registered Democratic voters and 75% of registered Republican voters in the Granite State favor U.S. action to reduce global warming emissions, with most "strongly" favoring U.S. action (Mellman Group, 3/07).
This is a proud day for New Hampshire, and a wake up call for the current and future leadership of our country.
