INDIANA
With record oil prices, Indiana’s economy is hurting. Dependence on this and other non-renewable energy sources are also fueling global warming. The economic losses alone are incentive to act. With no action on climate change, Indiana stands to lose 39,221 jobs. (i)
Global warming will have a huge impact on Indiana’s agricultural economy. Under a warmer climate, soybean yields could be cut in half by 2100. (ii)
At the heart of our economic woes is a reliance on fossil fuels. Indiana currently gets nearly 95% of its energy from coal, a dirty, non-renewable source. (iii)
Indiana can generate new jobs while fighting global warming with a strong investment in renewable energy. New energy means new jobs, and new jobs mean more economic growth.
Indiana can generate 67% of its energy needed through renewable sources! (iv)
What we need now is leadership to get us started.
