MINNESOTA

With energy and fuel prices on the rise, Minnesota’s economy could be in trouble. Our dependence on fossil fuels is also leading to increased global warming. The impacts of global warming on Minnesota’s economy could be devastating. Minnesota could lose 18,405 jobs if nothing is done to combat climate change. (i)

At the root of our economic problems is our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Minnesota currently depends on coal for a majority of its energy. (GRAPH WOULD GO HERE—small and integrated into text) (ii)

By investing in clean renewable energy, Minnesota can generate new jobs while fighting global warming.

Minnesota has the incredible potential to meet 1,940% of its energy needs through clean renewable energy. (iii)

Minnesota is already taking action to solve the global warming problem.  It intends to reduce global warming emissions by 15% in 2015, 30% by 2025, and 80% by 2050. In 2007, Minnesota set a goal of meeting 25% of its electricity demand with renewable energy by 2025. (iv)

Minnesota has taken strong steps towards a clean energy economy, but we need strong leadership to break our dependence on oil and fossil fuels.
