NEW HAMPSHIRE
With ever-increasing oil prices, New Hampshire’s economy is ailing. Our dependence on fossil fuels like oil is leading to global warming, as well. The economic costs we will face will only get worse if we take no action. If we fail to adopt a comprehensive approach to solving global warming, New Hampshire see a decline in crop yield by as much as 39% and, with it, the loss of thousands of jobs. (i)
Reliance on dirty energy is at the root of our economic woes. Currently New Hampshire relies heavily on coal and natural gas. (GRAPH WOULD GO HERE—small and integrated into text) (ii)
With a strong national commitment to producing our energy from clean, renewable sources like wind and solar, we can reduce our contribution to global warming and lead the global rise of new green industries.
Right now, our state has the potential to produce all of the energy the we need and as much as 73% more from renewables! (iii)
In 2001 New Hampshire agreed to reduce its statewide greenhouse gas production by 75-85% over the course of the next several decades. And, just last year, the state set a goal to produce 25% of its electricity from clean, renewable sources by 2025. (iv)
We need strong leadership to continue down the path to a clean-energy economy.
