TENNESSEE
With gas and oil prices on the rise, Tennessee’s residents and economy are hurting. Our reliance on these fossil fuels is also contributing to global warming, a problem that can have far-reaching effects here at home. Already facing a slowing economy, we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. Unless we take aggressive action to halt global warming, Tennessee could lose as many as 17,662 jobs. (i)
Our efforts to combat global warming, however, present an unprecedented opportunity to transform our economy and ensure a sustainable future. Today, however, Tennessee relies on coal-a dirty and outdated technology-to produce about 65% of its energy. (ii)
By investing in the state’s tremendous potential to produce clean energy, we can reduce our dependence on polluting fossil fuels and create dependable, green jobs that put our economy back on track.
Currently, Tennessee has the potential to produce more than 60% of the energy it needs from clean, renewable sources! (iii)
What we need is leadership to get us started.
